IBS stop logs are an economical solution for flow control

IBS stop logs are an easy-to-handle, cost-effective flow control solution.Stop logs have been used for years to level and control flows in open channel flow. We recommend the use of stop logs when a conventional slide gate is considered excessive in design and cost. Stop logs are also ideal as a temporary solution for diverting water flow while carrying out maintenance on or building a weir wall.

Stop logs, like slide gates, are versatile enough to be used in a broad range of applications including:

  • water and wastewater treatment plants
  • power stations
  • flood control
  • waterways

Fundamentals of IBS stop logs

The IBS stop log system basically consists of only two main components: the frame sides and the logs. The system connects to the ground by means of the extremely flexible ground seal design. This means that a ground track or invert frame section is not required for the IBS stop log (unless the frame is mounted in front of an opening that necessitates the need for one). Thus our stop log system presents a cost-effective solution both in terms of capital cost and civil construction costs.

In addition, pressing tools are provided with each IBS stop log system to ensure that the ground and intermediate log seals can be compressed, thereby effecting a greater degree of seal than that of a normal stop log system.


Flow Control Systems

Stop log system variations

IBS can supply stop logs in various materials, log heights, mounting types, log spans and removal techniques.

IBS stop logs are constructed from either lightweight extruded aluminum or stainless steel (304 or 316) materials and can be supplied in varying height profiles according to the specifications (the width and depth) required for the site application.

Stop log frames, or end posts, are available in stainless steel BS EN 10088 grades 1.4301 (304)

The stainless steel logs and/or end posts can also be produced in higher quality materials for special applications.

Mounting variations include:

  • standard channel rebate
  • channel sidewall
  • wall (on and off-seating variations)
  • special angled solutions

For stop logs with extremely wide aperture openings, IBS can design and install removable or permanent center posts.

Depending on the size of the opening, stop log removal is achieved by means of manual lifting poles or semi-automatic lifting beams.
